Discussion about CSIRT.CZ

A meeting focused on organisational and technical aspects of the CSIRT.CZ activity took place in Malostranský palac in Prague on 15th April. CZIRT.CZ is a part of security research carried by the Ministry of Interion of the Czech Republic. The goal os this meeting was to discuss the possibility of significant Internet service providers, content and risk-service providers to participate in the CSIRT.CZ workgroup and to achieve consensus in technical and legislative aspects of network security. Andrea Kropáčová from CESNET gave the main presentation as a leader of internationally-acredited CESNET-CERTS team. She is also leading the metodical preparation of CSIRT.CZ.

Meeting of Pierre Auger Observatory scientists

An international meeting of scientists working on the Pierre Auger Observatory Project takes place in Prague from 16th to 18th April. The projecyt is using grids to process massive measurements from cosmic radiation detectors located in the Argentinean Pampa. Read the press release for additional informationa.

Start of the CSIRT.CZ pilot

CESNET specialists Andrea Kropáčová and Ing. Tomáš Košňar made presentations on a press conference organised within the frame of the project titled Problems of cybernetic threats in light of security concerns of the czech Republic which is supported by the Ministry of interior of the Czech Republic. The press conference announced the creation of CSIRT.CZ team pilot, which is a model solution for CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team). The CSIRT.CZ should in collaboration with CSIRT teams improve the ability of Czech Internet environment to efficiently solve raising security incidents and to prevent them if possible. The advantage and exceptionality of this new team is its direct collaboration with other foreign CSIRT teams by the means of CESNET CSIRT team.

Advanced DWDM Nodes in CESNET2 Network

CESNET2 is one of the first wide-area optical networks in the world, where the most advanced multi-way DWDM technology is implemented to maximize the transmission capabilities. The implementation of a Degree-4 ROADM node enables remote software-switching of wavelengths without any manual intervention. See more in the press release.

CESNET Conference 08 – Call for Papers

If you want to present a paper during the CESNET Conference 08 organised from 25th to 26th of September in Prague, you may to submit your paper now. The major conference topics will be security, middleware and virtualization. More information (including the links necessary for paper submission) is available on the conference web site. The paper submission deadline is 16th May.

Successful evaluation of 2007 research

CESNET passed successfully the evaluation of its research results achieved in 2007. Our major research activities are comprised in the 7-year research plan titled Optical national research networks and its new applications covering a broad range of research topics. The evaluation committee commended the results during the regular annual evaluation and assigned the goals and milestones for year 2008. The press release provides detailed information.

Video Conference of Ophthalmologists

The CESNET association and CNC Praha provided technical means for the unique video conferences at the meeting of ophthalmologists called Live and Video Surgery 2008, taking place last Friday and Saturday, i.e. 25th and 26th January. The meeting was organised by the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Central Military Hospital Prague (Ústřední vojenská nemocnice Praha) and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague (1. lékařská fakulta Univerzity Karlovy v Praze). Live HDTV transfers from several operating rooms were implemented using high-quality video conference equipment. Read the press release for further details.
