Chip technology workshop

We organized a workshop named Chip technology for applications demanding identification and electronic signatures. The attendance was restricted to CESNET members but the presentations (in Czech) are open for the public.

Physical Thursdays

December 5., 2003

CESNET in collaboration with Students Union of the Czech Technical University provides online broadcast and archiving of Physical Thursdays, a public lectures organized by the Department of Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering CTU. More information and links are available in a press release (in Czech).

Workshop in Milovy

December 1.-3., 2003

This year's last workshop of CESNET researchers took place in Milovy. The major part of the agenda were reports of projects about activities and results achieved in 2003 and coordination of plans for next year. Researchers have been informed about submitted international projects of the 6th framework programme with CESNET participation.

New issue of our Datagram bulletin is now available (in Czech). It contains new projects accepted by the CESNET Development Fund, information about IPv6 workshop, list of projects for 6th framework programme on which CESNET participates and comparison of European NRENs based on TERENA compendium.

Collaboration with National library of the Czech republic

November 16., 2003

National library of the Czech republic is using the CESNET2 network for its Memoria and Kramerius projects. The purpose of these projects is to allow public access to historical prints and manuscripts. Further collaboration is expected focusing to distributed environments and grids.

Broadcast of Objects 2003 conference

November 13. to 14., 2003

We broadcasted the conference Objects 2003. The main topics of the conference were object oriented programming and related technologies.

IPv6 workshop

October 22., 2003

We organized a workshop dedicated to IP version 6. Presented talks covered the current status of related standards, deployment of IPv6 in networks around the world, experience gained by IPv6 deployment in CESNET2 network and achievements reached in the Liberouter project.

800 Mbps to commodity Internet

October 15., 2003

The bandwidth of our international line to commodity Internet has been upgraded from 622 to 800 Mbps. The line is provided by Telia. The global capacity of all external lines of the CESNET2 network reached 5 Gbps.

Multimedia search engine

October 10., 2003

CESNET and Jyxo deployed a unique multimedia search service. The system is based on full-text search over textual metadata contained in multimedia files available in the Internet. There are very few similar services available in the world.

News from INVEX fair

October 6.-10., 2003

We participated on a broadcast of news from INVEX - international fair of information and communication technology. The broadcast was provided in collaboration with GTS and Microsoft using the Windows Media 9 technology. The signal was distributed in two quality levels (PAL and lower) over IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

Liberouter at the EurOpen.CZ conference

September 30., 2003

An entire session at the XXIIIth EurOpen.CZ conference was devoted to the Liberouter project. All four papers were accepted very positively and especially appreciated was the management of the research team, in which CESNET effectively cooperates with five Czech universities (Masaryk University and Technical University in Brno, Czech Technical University and University of Economics in Prague, and University of West Bohemia in Pilsen).

Broadcast of the 46th RIPE meeting

September 1.-5., 2003

CESNET operated a mirror for live broadcast of the 46th RIPE meeting held in Amsterdam. The broadcast was available in Windows Media format using IPv4 or IPv6 protocols.

New design of the English Web

August 31., 2003

English part of our Web was converted to the new design. The code is based on a combination of XHTML strict and CSS - current recommendations of the WWW Consortium. The content (not the look) should be accessible also for users of non-conformant browsers.

Annual report 2002

We published the annual report summarizing status, activities and results achieved by our association in year 2002.

Native IPv6 connectivity to GEANT

August 5., 2003

Our IPv6 connection to the GEANT network is now native. It means that IPv6 datagrams are transported equivalently with IPv4 datagrams. Tunneling of IPv6 traffic over IPv4 datagrams is not used any more.

High-speed network monitoring card

August 2., 2003

CESNET in collaboration with Masaryk University of Brno started development of unique high-speed network monitoring card. The card is based on our COMBO6 card, primarily developed for fast PC-based IPv6 router. Flexible design of the card allows various applications of this hardware. The COMBO6 development is supported by EU projects 6NET and SCAMPI.

New design

July 8., 2003

We deployed a new design of our Czech web site. We tried to make it easier to navigate. We simplified the main menu and modified the contents of some sections. Our secondary goal was to adapt the site to contemporary WWW standards. So we used the combination of XHTML and CSS. We hope you enjoy the new design.

We published a new release of our Datagram bulletin (in Czech). Inside you can find description of the CESNET certification authority, information about the workshop New ways in development of high-speed networks and their applications, our new research plan and some interesting new lines in the CESNET2 network.

CESNET CA certification office opened

April 25., 2003

Services of the CESNET CA certification office are now open for members of the CESNET association. The office offers for example certificates for servers and services operated by CESNET members enabling easier secured access for their users. More information can be found on the CESNET CA page.

Workshop in Tri studne

April 14.-16., 2003

Researchers participating in CESNET projects met on a three-day workshop. Major goal of this workshop is to coordinate teams, exchange information about the results achieved and to plan next steps. Major topics of the plenary session were current status of the Liberouter project, security and AAA platforms.

Second line to NIX.CZ

March 25., 2003

CESNET deployed new connection to the Czech peering center NIX.CZ. Now we operate two independent lines to NIX.CZ, both using the Gigabit Ethernet technology.

CESNET Development Fund call for projects

March 21., 2003

CESNET Development Fund announced the call for projects for year 2003. This fund offers support for projects thematically related to the activities of CESNET. Project holder may be any regular member of CESNET association - see fund site (in Czech).

NetFlow Monitor available

March 19., 2003

The smart analyser of NetFlow statistics is now available under the GPL license. The tool provides nearly real-time traffic monitoring (including statistic evaluation and multicriterial data flow selection) and warnings about suspicious network activities (security attacks, routing troubles). Development of the program is carried by one of our projects.

New CESNET2 access conditions

We published new technical and economic conditions for the participation in the CESNET2 network, valid from March 1st. They are available in MS Word and PDF formats (in Czech).

IPv6 to NIX.CZ

February 24., 2003

The CESNET2 network was connected to the Czech exchange point NIX.CZ by native IPv6. The access line offers the bandwidth of 1 Gbps. It is shared with IPv4 using the IEEE 802.1Q technology, not a tunnel.

Workshop "New Ways in Development of High-speed Networks and their Applications"

We organized a workshop about the perspectives of high-speed networks and corresponding applications. Representatives of Czech Ministry of education, Ministry of informatics, European commission and advanced foreign NRENs took part in the event.

First international IPv6 line in the Czech Republic

February 16., 2003

CESNET deployed a native IPv6 line Prague-Frankfurt a. M. connecting the CESNET2 network to the 6NET. It is a unique event in our country because all previous international lines were implemented using tunnels over the common IPv4 network.

English version of the 2002 report

February 7., 2003

We released the English version of the annual report on research results achieved in 2002. It is available in the PDF format (236 pages, about 6 MB).

Datagram number 5

January 31., 2003

New release of the Datagram (in Czech) bulletin was published. It contains the list of projects accepted by the CESNET Development Fund, results of the evaluation of our research in 2002, information about research projects for 2003, report on our success in the SC02 conference and perspectives of native IPv6 support in the CESNET2 network.

"Broadband networks and their applications" Conference

January 20., 2003

Palacky University and CESNET are preparing next volume of the Broadband networks and their applications conference. It is held at the end of May in Olomouc. You may submit paper proposals till February 28.. All necessary information is available in the conference announcement or on the conference Web (both in Czech which is the conference language).

2002 annual research report

January 15., 2003

Annual report is created as a deliverable for evaluation process. It summarizes the results achieved in network development and corresponding projects last year. The Czech version for year 2002 contains 235 pages. It is published in HTML and PDF formats. The English version is on the way.

Successful evaluation of year 2002

January 15., 2003

Evaluation of the official research activity (which is a framework for development of the Czech academic network) concluded that the goals for 2002 were fulfilled. Evaluating board stated that the quality of research effort was very high. More details including examiners' reports are available in the evaluation record (in Czech).

New projects

On the projects page you can find the updated information about projects which are solved by CESNET in year 2003. The annual research report containing the results achieved in 2002 will be published in near future.
