Prague will host talks about multimedia on the Internet

On 5th and 6th November the new building of the National Technical Library in Prague Dejvice will host a preparatory meeting of the new working team of the TERENA organisation, which unites European national research and education networks. Task Force Media will be one of the topic-focused working teams active within the TERENA organisation.

The main aim of the Task Force Media will be to collect and exchange ideas, knowledge and experience concerning technical, administrational as well as legal aspects of internet multimedia creation, its management as well as distribution of related work procedures in the European space. The team's objective will be to coordinate the individual national activities in the domain of multimedia, to deal with the issue of streaming, saving multimedia content and suchlike. The Task Force Media will also involve a representative of the Czech Republic, delegated by the academic association CESNET, a long-standing member of the TERENA organisation.

CESNET association was founded by universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The association is currently financed mainly from the resources of the governmental Research and Development Board and funds of the association members. The association performs the research and development of information and communication technologies and building and developing the national gigabit optical network CESNET2, designed for research and educational purposes. With its research activities and accomplishments, the CESNET association can represent the Czech Republic in the pan-European GÉANT project as well as other international projects. Among other things it deals with the use of high-speed networks for sharing multimedia data both through synchronous video conferencing and shared applications and asynchronous streaming.
