CERT/CSIRT Team Members Training to Take Place in Roztoky Near Prague

This Thursday and Friday there will be a training organized in Roztoky near Prague called TRANSISTS CSIRT Training, intended for new members of CERT/CSIRT teams or those who would like to create and run such teams. CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) and CSIRT (Computer Security Incident Response Team) are teams aiming for preventive and active protection of computers and networks, mainly through consistent and efficient handling of security incidents, including removal of incident causes and impacts.

The two-day workshop is organized by TERENA, an organization uniting European national research and education networks, in cooperation with the CESNET academic association and the CSIRT.CZ workplace. The meeting is sponsored by the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA, www.enisa.eu).

The primary objective of the workshop is to train new members of CERT/CSIRT teams, furnishing them with the knowledge and skills needed for their future actions and organizing their first contact with the global community of CERT/CSIRT teams. The activity of CERT/CSIRT teams is based mainly on cooperation, information exchange and personal links representing a quality guaranty in this area. The training content has been developed by academic and commercial experts involved in CERT/CSIRT teams from different countries.

CSIRT.CZ (www.csirt.cz) is the name of a model security CSIRT team, whose objective is coordinating the handling of security incidents and providing help when handling incidents originating inside the Czech Republic or endangering computer networks operated in the Czech Republic. In particular, very serious incidents, incidents where no attempts to resolve the situation have been made, and persistent issues should be covered. The founding members of CSIRT.CZ are members of the CESNET-CERTS security teams, which is historically the first official CSIRT team established in the Czech Republic. Created in January 2004, CESNET-CERTS is operated by the CESNET association. The primary mission of this team is to handle security incidents in the CESNET2 national research network. One of the tasks of the CSIRT.CZ model workplace is the organization and operation of the CSIRT.CZ Workgroup. Members of the workgroup are representatives of important network operators, content providers and risk service providers. The aim of CSIRT.CZ is to help domestic network operators establish their own security teams and handle security incidents, improving the security of their networks as well as global Internet security.

The CESNET association was founded by universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The association is currently financed mainly from the resources of the governmental Committee for Research and Education and the resources of the members of the association. The association deals with the research and development of information and communication technologies, building and developing the national gigabit optical network, CESNET2, designed for research and educational purposes. With its research activities and accomplishments, the CESNET association can represent the Czech Republic in the pan-European GÉANT2 network construction project, actively participating in the project implementation.
