A Week of Science and Technology Live on the Internet via CESNET2

CESNET, the association of universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, has become one of the co-organizers of the seventh annual Week of Science and Technology to take place from November 1st to 11th. Selected lectures will be broadcasted on-line over the Internet using the CESNET2 – national research and education network constructed and developed by the association. On-line transfers of lectures from several locations in Prague and Brno will be available for viewing at http://prenosy.cesnet.cz/. A video archive of the lectures from the Week of Science and Technology will be accessible at http://videoserver.cesnet.cz/videoarchiv.php.

The seventh annual Week of Science and Technology, organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, takes place in five cities – Brno, Èeské Budìjovice, Olomouc, Ostrava and Prague. The program includes speeches of top professionals, presentations of attractive experiments, workshops, non-traditional exhibitions, science cafés, and visits of laboratories and academic workplaces. The Week of Science and Technology also features the European itinerant exhibition focusing on optics and optical technologies, titled The Fascination of Light. The exhibition takes place from November 1st to 8th in Veletr¾ní palác.

The CESNET association was founded by universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The association is currently financed mainly from the resources of the governmental Committee for Research and Education and the resources of the members of the association. The association deals with the research and development of information and communication technologies, building and developing the national gigabit optical network, CESNET2, designed for research and educational purposes. With its research activities and accomplishments, the CESNET association can represent the Czech Republic in the pan-European GÉANT2 network construction project as well as other international projects.
