Panel of WHO Experts Includes CESNET's Milan ©árek
Ing. Milan ©árek, CSc. of the CESNET Association has become a member of the Czech panel of experts for the World Health Organization (WHO). His area of expertise is eHealth – the use of information and communication technologies for the purposes of providing human healthcare. The task assigned to the panel of experts is to ensure the participation of the Czech Republic in the WHO Global eHealth Survey. This project will map the level of eHealth solutions in various parts of the world, including the Czech Republic. All 192 WHO members are participating. The core of the Global eHealth Survey consists of the preparation of a detailed questionnaire that is to be completed by significant institutions participating in eHealth programs in individual countries. The research results will be used to establish the priorities for further eHealth development, as today, it is one of the most dynamically growing medical fields overall.
The panel is composed of ten members, headed by Dr. Petr Struk, M.D. from SR MEDTEL, a public benefit organization. The project warranter is Dr. Alena ©teflová, M.D., who is the WHO Liaison Officer in the Czech Republic. Ing. Milan ©árek, CSc. was invited to join the project as a specialist in healthcare issues. "I consider being invited to join a project of experts to be an acknowledgement of the work I've performed in the eHealth field. Primarily, however, I see it as confirmation of the significant role that the CESNET Association plays in developing and implementing the newest applications and technologies intended to serve the needs of medicine – a task to which the association dedicates itself systematically and for the long term," says Ing. Milan ©árek, CSc., commenting on his participation in the project.
The CESNET association was founded by universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. It is currently financed primarily by its members and the Research and Development Council. The association operates and develops CESNET2, the national gigabit optical network intended for research and education, and participates in the research and development of information and communication technologies. Thanks to its research activities and achieved results, the CESNET association represents the Czech Republic in the European GN2 project, as well as in other international projects. Among other countries, the association currently cooperates with Canada, the Netherlands, and the USA on the construction of GLIF (Global Lambda Integrated Facility), a global lambda network whose Czech section is called CzechLight.
