16   SCAMPI and LOBSTER projects

16.1   SCAMPI

SCAMPI project took place from April 2003 to March 2005. CESNET was a member of the project consortium for the whole period. The goal of SCAMPI was to design and implement a platform for hardware-supported passive monitoring of high-speed networks. Year 2005 was the final phase of the project. An important event was the final project review that was held in Brno in January 2005, where the project was evaluated as very successful. In the remaining time till the end of the project, we had to complete certain software components and, in particular, integrate everything together. The documents and deliverables created by the project are available on its web pages. The project reviewers asked the project consortium and particularly CESNET and Masaryk University, who were responsible for hardware components, to establish a spin-off company to convert the project results into a commercial product. This company is now being established.

16.2   LOBSTER

LOBSTER is a 6th framework EU project and a follow-up to the SCAMPI project. The goal of LOBSTER is to enhance the SCAMPI architecture, specifically by adding support for distributed monitoring and data anonymisation. The project concentrates on security monitoring, that is detection of various kinds of computer attacks. LOBSTER also works towards a large-scale deployment of this architecture in several European countries. The LOBSTER project consortium consists of 9 partners from 6 countries. The project started in September 2004 and is planned till December 2006. All deliverables and other documents created by the project can be found on its web pages.

In 2005, we attended five working meetings and one public workshop. CESNET was responsible for workpackage 0 - requirement specification. The most important task of CESNET in LOBSTER is the development of hardware anonymisation. We implemented the first operational version of packet header anonymisation for COMBO cards and demonstrated it during the project review in November 2005.
