CESNET's Activities and Future Research Plans

At the occasion of the 10th anniversary of founding CESNET Association analysis of evolution of R&D networking during past ten years in the Czech republic will be given. Very important aspect in the process of advancing of the computer networking services was process of liberalization of data communications market in Europe where European Commission played very important role. Due to deregulation some NRENs had access to dark fibers utilization already in 1999 that contributed significantly to promotion of concept of Customer Empowered Fiber (CEF) networks. Presentation will include role of CESNET Association in enforcing of the CEF network concept. Description of the research activities that are being performed in the framework of the research plan "Optical National Research Network and its New Applications" will be also given with focus to future research work that is being planned during the research plan implementation period (2004–2010).
